Karen Kamel, McCann Health’s general manager for the MENA region, has joined the company’s Global Scientific Council (GSC) Leadership Team, comprised of prominent scientific leaders from around the McCann Health global network. Kamel is the first member of the GSC from the MENA region.

“We are delighted to have Karen join us at the GSC. With her rich, regional insights, pharmacy training and successful business background of leading a key region, she brings a unique perspective to the Council,” said Alice Choi, Executive Director of the Global Scientific Council. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure that science and complex data are made meaningful and accessible for all our clients’ stakeholders in each and every region.”

Scientific excellence is represented strongly as the third pillar for McCann Health alongside strategy and creativity. The Global Scientific Council brings together McCann Health’s wider community of 450+ PhDs, MDs, pharmacists and medical/scientific experts to help support pharma and healthcare clients and bring them world-class, evidence-based science.

McCann Health’s Global Scientific Council, is the first-of its kind in the healthcare communication industry.

“In the MENA region, rates of certain diseases, especially non-communicable ones, are among the highest in the world. Addressing and managing health issues is at the top of the region’s health agenda," said Karen Kamel, GM McCann Health MENA. “I am thrilled to join the Global Scientific Council to start making a bigger impact, harness and share best practices in scientific engagement and positively disrupt on behalf of our clients!”

McCann Health launched the Council to the pharmaceutical industry and wider medical and scientific community at a special event during the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 in New York City. The Council identified four areas of acute medical and societal need where it will strive to make a tangible difference through the application of its role as healthcare communication experts. These areas are: antimicrobial resistance, mental health, obesity and precision medicine.
